Dr. Oz On Sleeping Pills

I was watching Dr. Oz  last week and he was talking about sleeping pills. He was referencing a study that was done and how damaging sleeping pills are on our health.  Well duh......!

You know as a health care professional I see up close how damaging a lot of prescription drugs are on our health.  And to be honest I try to stay away from prescription medication as much as possible.

So back to sleeping pills.  Many people are suffering from insomnia.  Stress, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, lack of nutrients, and many more things are contributing to our lack of sleep.  But why not look for a natural alternative.

One thing that I have found is that calcium helps to calm our nerves.  Women definitely need calcium to help keep the bones strong but it also is needed for the nervous system and blood pressure regulation.

When taking calcium you need to take vitamin D as well to help the calcium to absorb.   If you really need to fall asleep, melatonin works well.  I know because I use it on occasion and I tell you I get the best sleep ever.
